Homemade Doughnuts. Such a simple treat to make, and surprisingly really yum. We dressed ours up in powdered sugar, cinnamon/sugar, homemade chocolate frosting leftover from the cake and dipped in a little concoction my mom made, and some store bought vanilla frosting. the doughnut holes were a must. can't wait to make more.

the whole making our own doughnuts was brought about by this neat little tool we picked up at the grocery store. a cookie cutter/doughnut cutter. you can see it in the first and second picture. the center comes out so you can use it for cookies or whatever. plus it had the simple old fashioned doughnut recipe right on the back of the package! wicked awesome.

yum. tasty yellow layer cake with fool proof chocolate frosting all made from scratch. i won't lie, it wasn't perfect. the edges of the cake were a tad overcooked, but that didn't deter from the deliciousness! the frosting was rich and smoooooth and oh so chocolate-y.

I'm going to make a fluffy yellow layer cake from scratch today! Got turned on to the idea after flipping through the Cooking for Two 2009 issue of America's Test Kitchen. If it turns out, I may have to do a repeat in a week or so for some birthday celebrations. Also, really want to bake a pie soon. But what kind!?
